COMMUNITY & classes

Now that the physical store has closed, Liz will post community events and her own classes from time to time, including a social knit & crafts circle year-round. See details below.

KNITTING CLASSESIn-person Registration at Hill Institute for crafts classes is on one Saturday morning in September (Fall session) and one Saturday morning in January (Spring session) at Hill Institute, 83 Pine St, Florence, MA. If classes don’t fill immediately, you may come to the office the following week to register. See the Hill Institute website for exact class times and registration dates.

My project knitting classes are 10 wks on Wednesdays or Thursdays, each $90.  These are “bring your own project” classes for any skill level (except **), to get assistance as needed on a project you’re already working on, or to get help choosing a new project. Demos & handouts. **Must know how to knit.

If you want to learn to knit, or have forgotten how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off, please register for the one-day-only “Learn to Knitworkshop running the Friday before classes start in September. My technique classes will also be one-day-only workshops:  Fix Your Knit Stitches, Nov 1,  & Reading Knit Patterns & Charts, Nov 22 . See the Hill Institute website for exact times and registration dates.

* Project Knitting, 10 wks, $90, for students who already know how to knit and like to have help with techniques or tricky patterns.   Two sections for you:

* Section 1: * Wed 10am – 12pm

* Section 2: * Thurs 10am – 12pm

* Learn to Knit: * Fri. Sept 27, 9:00 – 3:30  One-day workshop.  Do you want to learn to knit? Have you forgotten how to cast on, knit, purl, and bind off and want to relearn? Join this one day workshop and see what all the fun is about! (Will run the Friday before “Project Knitting” classes start, so is a prerequisite for joining those classes if you don’t know how to knit and want to register for both.)

* Fix Your Knit Stitches: * Fri, Nov 1, 9:00 – 3:30 One-day workshop for advanced beginners through intermediate students.  Must know how to cast on, knit, purl, and read a simple pattern (to knit a bulky swatch as pre-class homework). Lots of tips for fixing dropped stitches, yarn overs, twisted stitches, and more. Handouts and practice time.

* Reading Knit Patterns & Charts: * Fri, Nov 22, 9:00 – 3:30 One-day workshop to learn how to read the curious (and sometimes frustrating) language of knitting patterns, find your place if you lose it, and how to use charts for knit-purl patterns, cables, and lace.

~~  ONGOING  ~~

The public Crafts Circle at the Tilton Library in South Deerfield, MA, is on hold. Some of us have decided to form a private group (similar to a book group) in a home, and I encourage you to consider forming your own group, or finding one at a senior center or library.  Tilton Library will be closed in 2024 while it is renovated. I hope to find a larger public space for a larger group sometime in the future. Keep on knitting!

  13. I’m looking for an “intro to weaving” class. I know nothing, but have been in awe of some of the fiber art I’ve seen people create, and I want to dabble a little to see if this is something I’d like to pursue. Any ideas?
