COMMUNITY & classes

Now that the physical store has closed, Liz will post community events and her own classes from time to time, including a social knit & crafts circle year-round. See details below.

KNITTING CLASSESOne-time Registration at Hill Institute for crafts classes is on a Saturday in September (Fall session) and January (Spring session) at Hill Institute, 83 Pine St, Florence, MA –  for 10-week classes. My knitting classes are on Tuesdays, 5:00 – 7:00 and Wednesdays, 10:00 – 12noon, each $80.  These are “bring your own project” classes for all skill levels, including learn to knit, get help finding a new project, and get assistance as needed on a project you’re already working on. See the Hill Institute website for exact times and registration dates.

Fall 2022 Tuesday class has been cancelled due to low enrollment.  Wednesday class is full.

I am vaccinated, and I expect that we will all wear masks during classes, be seated at tables with adequate spacing, and I’ll open windows during good weather.

Outdoors Knit & Crafts Circle – in collaboration with Tilton Library, Sheep & Shawl (Liz Sorenson) will host a social knit & crafts circle Thursday mornings, 10 – 12, weather permitting (rain cancels). We meet in the library’s breezy backyard in the shade of the big Red Maple trees. There is no registration and there is open seating. You must bring your own chair (or use a picnic table), snacks, water, sunhat, sunglasses, crafts of your choosing – knitting, crochet, spinning, rug-hooking, mending. Bathroom is not available at Tilton (opens at 1:00 Thursdays) but there is one a 2-min. walk to Deerfield Town Hall. Nov 3rd is the last Outdoors Thursday Morning Crafts Circle 10 – 12 noon behind Tilton Library, South Deerfield, MA.  (Bathroom at the Town Hall one block away.)

Indoors Knit & Crafts Circle – During cold weather we will meet inside the Tilton Library, South Deerfield, depending upon space availability and Covid restrictions. Tuesdays, 10 – 11:45, beginning Nov 8. Free, but registration is required as seats are limited. To register, check for a waiting list, or if you have questions, email:  liz@sheepandshawl.com .   (Deerfield’s Public Library, 75 North Main Street, South Deerfield, MA)  tiltonlibrary.org  Bring crafts of your choosing – knitting, crochet, spinning, rug-hooking, mending.  This is a social group, no instruction provided, but someone in the circle may just have an answer for you if you have a question.

We encourage donations to Heifer International to buy a fiber animal for an underprivileged family in the world.  Donate quickly and safely online at Sheep & Shawl’s donation page

  13. I’m looking for an “intro to weaving” class. I know nothing, but have been in awe of some of the fiber art I’ve seen people create, and I want to dabble a little to see if this is something I’d like to pursue. Any ideas?
